Recommended Text for Office Application Software
by Carlos Chavez - Saturday, 26 July 2008, 12:34 PM
Some of you have expressed an interest in identifying a book that would have step-by-step instructions for doing the kinds of projects we have done in class. The text (any edition) that I recommend is by Shelly,Cashman, and Vermaat. Some of the projects we have done come from this book. The text covers Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. Each chapter is a step-by-step description for creating a project. Each application has about three chapters. There are also labs and practice projects at the end of each chapter. I have a solutions disk (somewhere)that I can copy for you if you would like. Let me know and I will look for it. Here is the book details: Shelly, G.B., Cashman, T.J., Vermaat, M.E. (2003). Microsoft Office XP: Introductory Concepts and Techniques, Windows XP Edition. Cambridge, MA.: Course Technologies. ISBN#: 0-619-20003-0. You can find a used copy at www.half.com for cheap. Today I saw some going for around $5!!

There will be an amnesty window for late submissions (with some late penalty). The dates for the window are to be set on Sunday, July 13 after a class discussion of the amnesty window details.

I am running Moodle, an open-source course management system, on this site to support teaching CIS 1 at Mount St. Mary's College.

Questions and bugs reports should be e-mailed to me Carlos A. Chávez .
